2012 COUNCIL OF THE FEDERATION LITERACY AWARD PRESENTED

During a ceremony today at the Legislature, Education Minister Russ Marchuk presented Gordon Li with the 2012 Council of the Federation Literacy Award.

"On behalf of Premier Brad Wall, I am pleased to present Mr. Li with this prestigious award," Marchuk said. "His dedicated work in promoting learning and literacy engagement among adult learners is commendable."

Mr. Li has attended literacy programs through the Regina Public Library, Regina Open Door Society, and the University of Regina. Although it has been many years since he was a new Canadian, he still draws upon this experience to encourage English language learners by sharing his story and insights. He also supports and promotes literacy as a long-time volunteer with the Saskatchewan Literacy Network and the Regina Literacy Network.

Created by Canada's premiers, the Council of the Federation (COF) Literacy Award has been awarded since 2005 in each province and territory. The award recognizes the valuable contributions of Canadians in the field of literacy, including family, Aboriginal, health, workplace and community literacy. Each award recipient receives a COF Literacy Award medallion, as well as a certificate.
