News Release - December 6, 2010 PUBLIC SERVICE, SGEU SUPPORT PROVINCIAL FOOD BANKSThe Saskatchewan public service and Saskatchewan Government and General Employees' Union (SGEU) public service sector are once again teaming up to participate in a joint food drive in support of provincial food banks, from December 6 to 17. "Employees in the public service are very generous, and often join campaigns to help the people of our province," Minister responsible for the Public Service Commission June Draude said. "I am pleased that the Public Service Commission, on behalf of the employer, and the union are working together to sponsor an opportunity for employees to contribute in their workplaces." Food collection bins will be set up in government buildings around Regina, Saskatoon, Prince Albert, and in many other locations around the province. "Public service employees and SGEU members are part of your community," SGEU's Public Service/Government Employees Bargaining Committee Chair Barry Nowoselsky said. "We want to do it to help people less fortunate than ourselves."
The Public Service/SGEU Food Bank Drive will support CBC Radio-Canada's Comfort & Joy Campaign. This is the second year that government employees have been involved in this campaign. In 2009, they raised more than 5,000 pounds of food. -30- For more information, contact:
