A total of 14,797 hunting licences have been awarded through the 2008 Big Game Draw. Licences will be mailed in the coming weeks. Below is a summary of applicants and licences issued for 2008.

Saskatchewan's annual Free Fishing Weekend will be July 12 and 13. That means everyone, including visitors from outside the province, can fish in Saskatchewan without having to purchase a licence.

Because of recent rainfall and reduced fire hazards the provincial ban on all open fires in all burning permit areas in or within 4.5 kilometers of provincial forests, including provincial parks, north of Highway #3 from the Alberta border to the Manitoba border has been lifted. There are now no active provincial fire bans in the province.

Two hunters from the Biggar area were fined a total of $7,580 in Rosetown Provincial Court for illegally chasing wildlife and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

In early April 2008, two elk were found dead west of Nipawin, close to Fort a la Corne in Wildlife Management Zone (WMZ) 50.

To reduce the risk of Dutch elm disease, pruning of elm trees is prohibited throughout Saskatchewan each year from April 1 until August 31.
